Learning the hard way

As a kid I always loved goofing around, being provocative and making people laugh. During my school years I spent more time prancing about in front of the mirror perfecting my Robocop impression than on my homework – which didn’t exactly bode well for my exam results… A stark wake-up call!

I ended up going to a crammer and re-taking my A’levels, which sparked my passion for learning how to learn effectively. Driven by renewed ambition, I got to Keele University where I gained a degree in Politics and Philosophy which I loved.

Born to Perform

Following that it was time to enter ‘the real world’. I worked for a time in Fine Art Publishing where I learnt how small businesses work, then recruitment, before venturing into learning and development. Working for an Attitude & Behavioural coaching company, I helped organise large scale events to inspire and entertain people.

While this started me on the path of training and coaching, the desire to get in front of an audience never left me and in my spare time I started out on the stand-up circuit. I gigged around the country for about 4 years and reached the semi-final of So You Think You’re Funny in Edinburgh and the final of the Hackney Empire New Act Competition, as well as having my own show at the Edinburgh Festival.

Along the way I met a host of other talented performers which inspired me to create an alternative variety show, Dr DiMaglio’s Secrets. For six years, I organised, promoted and hosted the monthly show at an underground club in Euston with the help of a close-knit group of friends. Regularly Critic’s Choice in Time Out magazine, we put on some big shows at the Bloomsbury Theatre and the Conway Hall and even performed at a festival in France.

Pastures New...

I have always been someone who will rise to a challenge, constantly reevaluating my own personal journey and seeking out new adventures.

In 2017 I left my house in London for greener pastures and am now based in the beautiful town of Lewes in East Sussex with my wife and three children: with a teenage daughter and 2 small boys, you could say the challenges are endless!
